Much of my emotion is expressed through art. My paintings are characterized by striking brushwork and intense color contrasts that reflect both the happiness and sorrow of life. I appreciate the balance between representational forms and abstract features. The content is secondary to me; I focus more on the method of painting than the actual subject matter.
As a jazz saxophonist, I rely on chord progressions as a base to explore variations in melody, cadence, and tonality during my solos. My painting process resembles a jam session on canvas. Using an object or scene as inspiration, I make decisions about color and texture that transform it into something new. A spontaneous choice in visual elements can reveal unexpected possibilities, much like how ensemble musicians respond to one another's ideas.
I consider the eye to be the primary and ultimate judge. My work succeeds when its use of color, composition, and dynamic elements captivates the audience and ignites a viewer's urge to return to it.
